God is very patient with us. He does not stop pursuing us.

I was a pro-abortion feminist in the late 60’s and 70’s. What was ‘popular’ then --women’s rights, abortion was legalized in 1973, men were the enemy, Gloria Steinem and “Ms Magazine” (I subscribed to it.).  Women celebrated their abortions in the early issues.  I took several Women’s Studies courses when I completed my bachelor's degree in nursing.  There were too many people.  There was not going to be enough food to feed the people.  We should not have babies or have abortions if we got pregnant.

What brought me out of these dark beliefs, moving toward faith and viewing all life as valuable, including unborn life? I have memories of several incidents, which challenged these beliefs. I worked in labor and delivery.  There were several births of very small babies. One baby was born, and we took the baby to the utility room, rather than to the nursery. I remember being very upset about the birth.  The baby was too small to survive, but we changed the policy, so any baby would be taken to the nursery, to be cared for.

Why was I so upset?  I think the Lord was working on my heart, to realize how valuable these little babies were.  How could I say it was a good thing, to abort these little ones?

I also remember a conversation I had with a group of people.  I was stating my beliefs that babies with ‘defects’ should be aborted.  One of the people spoke about her brother who had Down’s Syndrome, how much he was loved and was a beautiful part of their family.

Thank you Lord, for leading me to faith in God, that being pro-life, defending life was the truth, would bring joy to my life.

God bless,
